Art Tower – Riyadh’s New ETFE Landmark in Middle East(2025)
The Art Tower in Riyadh is a bold example of adaptive reuse and modern design, standing tall as part of Saudi Vision 2030. Originally a functional 83-meter transmission tower, it has been reimagined with a colorful single-layer ETFE membrane — the tallest of its kind in the Middle East.
This architectural transformation was led by Taiyo Middle East LLC, specialists in ETFE structures and membrane architecture, in collaboration with the Sports Boulevard Foundation. The design echoes the shape of historic electricity pylons along Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road, now reshaped into a symbol of creativity and sustainability.
During the day, the ETFE membrane panels cast dynamic shadows and vivid color reflections across the landscape. At night, the tower glows brightly, becoming a beacon of modern art and urban revitalization in Riyadh’s skyline.
By revitalizing existing infrastructure instead of demolishing it, this project showcases environmental responsibility, innovation, and cultural continuity. Taiyo Middle East oversaw the entire process — from design and fabrication to installation — demonstrating the firm’s global leadership in tensile membrane systems.
